Key Finding 1: More than half of all high school students say they have not heard of “Constitution Day,’’ mandated by federal law to be the day the Constitution is taught in schools; and only about 1 in 10 remember how their high school celebrated that day in the last school year.

51% of students say they have not heard of Constitution Day, and another 4% say they aren't sure if they've heard about at all.

Only a small percentage of teachers and parents believe that their high schools have exerted “a lot of effort” toward promoting student understanding of the First Amendment.

Just 8% of teachers say that their school has made “a lot” of effort to promote First Amendment principles through school activities, conversations and policies.  Another 55% say their school has made “some” efforts at this.  Similar numbers of parents say their child’s school has made “a lot” (11%) or “some” (52%) effort to promote the First Amendment.
